FishBrain

I chose the Fishbrain app because of my love for the sport of fishing and useful this app has been to me over the last 6 months. Where I am originally from in northern Utah I have a very good idea where many of the most popular and best fishing spots are. However, since moving to St. George my knowledge of this area and how to fish for the species of fish in this area is very slim. I would get so frustrated at times because I never knew where to go and once I got there I didn't know what baits to use. Fishbrain completely helped my gain knowledge of this area and turn this into one of my favorite areas to fish in Utah.

The picture above is the screen that is displayed once you click into someones catch. It gives you one or more pictures of the fish or of the person holding the fish. This is also where you can comment on the catch.

This is the GeoGrid map that allows to scan large areas of ground and discover where people are catching fish. Most streams, lakes, and ponds are also labeled regardless if there is a catch in that area or not. This is also a good way to see what fisheries may be near you that you never knew about.

This is what your Profile screen looks like. It displays how many catches you have posted, friends you are either following or being followed by, and the fisheries you are the King of the Water at. 

48hrs...No Phone.

This was a project that I wasn't fully able to participate in unfortunately. I was in Salt Lake at the Utah Broadcasters Association job fair that was held at the University of Utah while my wife and 3 week old son at the time were back in St. George. With my son being so young and my wife and I not having any family in southern Utah I had to have my portable device with me just in case of emergency. However, because of this assignment I gave my absolute best effort to not operate my phone in any way shape or form unless my wife called. It was surprising how long my phones battery life lasted when I was't using it throughout the whole day. I found myself however always having the desire to check my phone and all my media applications quite frequently. It honestly took a lot more discipline than I could have ever imagined to not use my phone whenever I wanted to. This assignment showed me just how dependent one can get with their cell phone because of the frequent use the majority of us have. Ever since trying this assignment I have tried to personally cut back on my cell phone use as much as I can so that I don't remain so dependent on it. I truly feel that this assignment has changed the frequency of my cell phone use

The link attached is the YouTube visual tutorial that gives you a further insight to the CAVE2. Now obviously this piece of technology is years from being available to the public. However, imagine the way professors will be able to teach their class with this technology. This is a big device I realize, but over time I think it will be a device that will be very prevalent in schools, offices, and companies.
